Recent Update on Neil Peart’s Site
The guy that is often considered the greatest rock drummer of all time, Neil Peart of Rush, has posted a new entry to his website.
I always make it a point to read every word he posts there, not only because I am a Rush fan, but also because he is such an interesting writer and he often writes about things that are totally unrelated to music that I find interesting.
With this most recent update, Peart talks about spending time in his
native Canada during February and how much he loves being there during that time of the year.
He’s obviously someone who loves nature and the outdoors, and since I have an appreciation for those things as well, this latest entry was interesting to me. I’m sure here may be some people out there who find the subject as boring as watching paint dry.
Although I don’t share Peart’s enthusiasm for the winter season, I do sometimes appreciate the beauty of a winter day here in New Hampshire where I live. My problem with winter in this part of the world is that it is just too darn long. I often say that if spring started here around the end of January, I really wouldn’t mind winter all that much and might even come to appreciate it as much as Neil Peart does.
One item leaked out by Peart during this most recent update is a hint that he may be moving back to Canada. It seems he has been living in California for a while now and it appears he may be a little homesick and planning a move back to the Great White North.
Check out Peart’s latest post here.

Australian Woman Takes Her Springsteen Seriously
I don’t think too many people would question Karen Lee Cooper’s dedication to the music of Bruce Springsteen, although I think it would be fair to question her sanity.
Cooper was recently sentenced in an Australian court to eight years in jail after pleading guilty to manslaughter which stemmed from an attack in 2006 where she stabbed her boyfriend to death.
Apparently, Ms. Cooper enjoys listening to Bruce Springsteen on her CD player, but her boyfriend, Kevin Watson, did not count himself among Springsteen’s many fans, and proceeded to voice his displeasure with Ms. Cooper’s choice of music on July 8, 2006.
When Mr. Watson decided to get physical with Ms. Cooper’s CD player, she picked up a knife and stabbed him. Although she did call authorities to summon help following the incident, Mr. Watson died before help arrived.
A short time later, police located Cooper outside where she had gone after swallowing a number of pills in a failed suicide attempt.
I guess it’s is nice for a performer to hear about a fan that is willing to defend her dedication, but I don’t think this is the kind of incident “The Boss” likes to hear about.

Classics Gain New Fans Thanks To ‘Guitar Hero Effect’
Those of us who consider ourselves diehard classic rock fans may be tempted to borrow from a well-known track by The Who that says, "The kids are alright."
I will admit that I was rather unimpressed with the whole "Guitar Hero" concept when I first heard about it. Much like cartoon dad Randy Marsh on South Park, I thought time spent with a toy guitar in front of a TV screen would be much better spent learning how to play a real guitar.
Despite my earlier reservations, and the fact that I still do consider time spent with a real guitar more valuable than with a toy, there do appear to be some good things coming out of this whole "Guitar Hero" craze.
Beyond providing some good clean fun for folks who don’t have a desire to learn how to play a real guitar, games like "Guitar Hero" are creating a whole new generation of classic rock fans.
The proof is in the numbers. Figures from Neilsen SoundScan, a company that tracks both digital music downloads and music sold through more traditional outlets, sales of the Aerosmith single "Same Old Song And Dance" rose 136 percent the week after "Guitar Hero III" was released and then exploded to 400 percent the week after the Christmas holiday.
Class rock artists also seem to have found new appreciation for this generation of games that allow just about anyone to feel like a rock star on stage in the comfort of their own living room.
How badly do some artists want to have their songs featured on a version of "Guitar Hero" or "Rock Band?" Well, the Sex Pistols were willing to return to the studio to re-record "Anarchy In The U.K." because they did not have the original master recording and Living Colour went into the studio and re-recorded the guitar solo on "Cult of Personality" because it was considered too easy.
Parents around the country are reporting that their kids are embracing a lot of the classics many of us baby boomers grew up listening to after being introduced to the music by playing one of these games. Something that should help classic rock endure well into the future.
In closing, I offer a tip of my hat to the creators of games like "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band." I can’t think of anything but good things to say about activities that help keep classic rock alive for future generations.

Whitesnake Album, Tour Drawing Near
With a new album set for release on April 22 and a European tour this summer, Whitesnake is back in the news. With 10 years or so passed since their last studio albums, fans may not have expected to hear from the rockers again, but they are indeed back.
The group’s new album, Good To Be Bad, will be released on SPV on
April 22 and frontman David Coverdale took some time to talk with Billboard recently.
Plans for a U.S. tour are being discussed but are not yet final. European fans will be treated to a tour that features Whitesnake and Def Leppard, who also happen to have an album coming next month.
Coverdale reveals that he and Def Leppard’s Joe Elliot are old friends who are both surprised how well their tour is being received. They have decided to add new dates due to the fact that because the arenas are selling out three months in advance of the tour.
Whitesnake fans may also be looking forward to the release of a newly remastered 3-disk set to celebrate the groups 30-year anniversary. A live Whitesnake DVD is also said to be in the works.
When asked what inspired him to emerge from retirement, Coverdale mentions his experience touring with German rock legends the Scorpions and how he finished up that adventure with a smile on his face and a large sum of money, which prompted his wife to encourage more activities of that nature.
To avoid portraying the Whitesnake frontman as too interested only in the financial rewards of the music business, it should be noted that he was also quoted as saying: “I thought this is an opportunity to keep me happy and make other people happy, too.”

‘Rolling Stones Radio’ Returns To SIRIUS
Just in time to celebrate the release of Martin Scorsese’s new film featuring the Rolling Stones, SIRIUS Satellite Radio is brining "Rolling Stones Radio" back on the air for a month.
Readers may be aware that I have been a fan of SIRIUS ever since I
discovered it being carried on my Dish Network programming package a few years ago. The lack of commercials that plague terrestrial radio endlessly was the main reason I enjoyed listening to SIRIUS.
The new Scorsese film, Shine A Light, will open in "selected cities" on April 4, while "Rolling Stones Radio" will come to life on SIRIUS channel 12 tomorrow, March 18 with a scheduled end date of April 15.
"Rolling Stones Radio" last aired on SIRIUS during 2005 when the Rolling Stones released their album, A Bigger Bang.
Although SIRIUS has announced plans to keep "Rolling Stones Radio" on the air for about a month, there is the possibility that it could enjoy a longer life if there is enough demand for the channel. SIRIUS recently extended the life of the "E Street Radio," a station dedicated to the music of Bruce Springsteen And the E Street Band.

2+ months on…
Well, its been a very long while since i last posted on here…
The last couple of months, besides working, christmas, and trying to get a band together, i havent really had much time to post and blog the goings on of Led Zeppelin…
So lets try and get some of the main points down.
Firstly… everyone wants to know if Led Zeppelin are going to tour…
well, Jimmy kind of squished thoe rumours of thejm playing bonnaroo, or glastonbury dead when he gave a press conference and mentioned that Robert was working on his Alison Krauss tour and that there would be nothing going on aslong as robert is putting his energy into that tour.
But he did hint at future gigs, but, it was just a hint, and there is no grounds to suspect anything other than a fans over analysis of what Jimmy said in a press conference.
Further information on Jimmy is that he was apparently spotted in Bangkok where he told fans that he was currently taking time out before heading back to london to remaster the audio from the reunion gig… for what wasnt clear, but if the audio is remastered, the film was all recorded, could make for a very nice 07 Live Zeppelin DVD and CD.
Whilst Jimmy is Busy, Roberts Views are as follows, according to contactmusic.com:
Veteran rocker ROBERT PLANT has cast further doubt on a LED ZEPPELIN reunion tour, because he’s not ready to pledge his full commitment to the group. Plant joined his fellow bandmates for a one-off tribute concert in London last December (07) and fans have been waiting for what they feel is an inevitable world tour announcement ever since. And while guitarist Jimmy Page has vowed to consider a tour after Plant concludes his string of live dates with new musical partner Alison Krauss, the singer admits going on the road with the legendary band is not one of his top priorities. He says, “I really enjoyed playing with my friends, and we are a lot closer because of it. But the responsibility, the whole deal…it’s a whole different thing to what I’m doing with Alison.”
